Combating the east Africa famine with Control Risks
Since 2001 Control Risks have raised over £150,000 for Merlin, enabling us to provide life-saving health care to thousands of vulnerable people around the world.Our partnership is strongly embedded within Control Risks and our emergency work is strongly supported by their employees. In addition, they have provided professional services in-kind to help train Merlin staff on crisis management and generously host Merlin USA in their offices in Washington.
Having been moved by the plight of the east Africa famine, Control Risks employees held a fundraising day in September 2011. Jean Marsh, Event Manager at Control Risks shares some of the highlights:
“We held a ‘micro’ fete in the atrium of our building, allowing the public and employees to purchase CDs, books, bric-a- brac etc, accessories and delicious cakes that were made by us all. The whole company was involved in the day in some way or other, whether it was giving up an hour to man the stalls or helping to sell raffle tickets.
"During the day, we had people going around the company dressed as Smurfs collecting donations, but the highlight of the day was the quiz nght and bar. The proceeds from the bar were donated to the appeal as was the money raised by an entertaining and brain-numbing quiz. The last question was to name the picture of the bird. Of course, it was a Merlin.
