Typhoon Haiyan, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded, tore through the Philippines recently, leaving over 9 million people in need of urgent help.
The health needs are rising
It's feared that 10,000 lives have been lost in this catastrophic disaster. Over 630,000 people have been made homeless. Samar and Leyte are the most severely hit provinces, with a thousand casualties reported in Tacloban city alone.
The health system is on its knees. Hospitals are badly damaged and out of use.
Those that have survived are living in critical conditions, without food, clean water or shelter. Their lives are at risk and without the essential support they desperately need, they may die.
People are hanging on, struggling to survive hour by hour, day by day. But as time passes, the needs are becoming more overwhelming in the Philippines.
We are doing whatever it takes to deliver life-saving emergency health care to children and their families.
Merlin and Save the Children on the ground
Together with Save the Children, we are responding to the immediate medical needs of people. As a combined force for health, we aim to reach 500,000 people affected by Typhoon Haiyan. We are helping save lives right now.
We are equipping hospitals to ensure they have the capacity to bring vital medical care to people in need. We are also planning to a run vaccination campaign to contain the spread of disease. Our teams are on the ground in the affected areas, including Tacloban, Bohol and Cebu, working around the clock to save lives.
But we need to do much more. We need to provide more medical kits, food, health care and drugs to people living in the direst circumstances. We can do it, but we need your support. The people in the Philippines need your help NOW. Please give whatever you can today.
